Program Information
Upon completion of the program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion that will allow you to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage. Upon filing to take the National Certification Examination, you will be eligible to apply for a provisional license in the State of Missouri. Upon passing the National Certification Examination, you will be eligible for full licensure in the State of Missouri.
Educational Objectives for PMTC's 900 Hour Massage Therapy Program
- Graduates will be qualified to sit for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and after passing will be able to apply for licensure with the State of Missouri.
- Students will be prepared for entry-level positions as professional massage therapists.
- Students will learn the scope of practice for massage therapy and develop appropriate referral skills.
- Students will develop professional work habits and professional ethics.
- Students will be educated in the promotion of wellness, as well as disease processes.
- Students will receive an education that integrates massage therapy theory, technique, anatomy and physiology as well as practical massage therapy experience.
- Students will learn the combination of professionalism and ethics that will distinguish them as competent practitioners of skilled touch.
- Students will be able to use stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs (sphygmomanometers) and thermometers to monitor vital signs of heart rate, respiration, pulse, and temperature.
- Students will be able to use goniometers and inclinometers to assess range of motion and evaluate posture.
- Students will develop professional work habits and professional ethics for use in clinical and medical settings.
- Students will be educated in the mechanisms of pain and techniques that alleviate common painful conditions.
- Students will receive an education that integrates clinical reasoning through the use of real world scenarios to apply treatment principles and create treatment strategies.
